Collection: Sparks in the Dark — Shrine of Remembrance Collection

These embroideries are part of Sparks in the Dark: 260 Weeks of Resilience, an exhibition at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne marking five years since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan.

The collection features 260 handkerchief embroideries created by 45 women living in Afghanistan, with each piece representing one week of the five years since August 2021. Together, they share the ongoing realities faced by Afghan women while celebrating their creativity, skills and resilience.

For Hoori Handmade, sharing these stories is not only about awareness. The women behind the works want opportunities to use their skills, earn an income and support their families. By purchasing a piece, you are helping create those opportunities.

These works will remain on display at the Shrine of Remembrance until August 2027. They can be reserved and purchased now and will be delivered after the exhibition concludes.
