Casting Light and Hope: Hoori Handmade at Sydney Craft Week | 3–23 October 2026 | F Tanner Baker Window Gallery, Sydney

We were delighted to be part of Sydney Craft Week 2026 through Casting Light and Hope, an exhibition at F Tanner Baker Window Gallery in Rozelle, Sydney. The exhibition celebrated the creativity, cultural heritage and stories of Afghan women through their traditional hand-embroidered artworks.

Displayed in the gallery's street-facing windows, the embroideries brought the skills and craftsmanship of Afghan women artisans to local residents and the wider craft community. Each piece reflected traditional Afghan embroidery techniques, cultural symbols and the personal experiences of women continuing to create under challenging circumstances.

As part of the exhibition, Hoori Handmade founder and artist Mursal Azizi joined a special Meet the Artist event on 9 October, sharing the story behind Hoori Handmade, the women who create the artworks and the importance of connecting traditional craftsmanship with opportunities for income and independence.

For Hoori Handmade, participating in Sydney Craft Week was an opportunity to introduce Afghan embroidery to new audiences, share the realities of women's lives in Afghanistan and demonstrate how their creativity and skills can help them support their families and build greater economic independence.

We are deeply grateful to Helen and the F Tanner Baker Window Gallery team for generously hosting the exhibition and creating a space for these artworks and stories to reach the wider community. Our heartfelt thanks also go to everyone who visited, engaged with the exhibition and supported the women behind the work.

Casting Light and Hope was presented from 3–23 October 2026 at F Tanner Baker Window Gallery, Rozelle, as part of Sydney Craft Week.
